ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
To keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for all students, we ask families to follow our school’s procedures each day. Please remember: the front circle is for buses only, car drop off and pick up takes place behind the school, and park and walk entry happens in the front parking lot. https://durhampublicschoolsnc.sites.thrillshare.com/o/southwest/page/families

Our staff will be outside each morning and afternoon to guide traffic and support students. Please follow their directions, these routines help us keep every child safe.

KINDERGARTEN STAGGERED ENTRY
Kindergarten will begin the year with a staggered entry schedule. All registered kindergartners will attend school on one designated day, based on their legal last name.

Monday – Last Names A-F
Tuesday – Last Names G-O
Wednesday – Last Names P-Z

On Wednesday afternoon, students will be placed into classes, and families will receive notification of their child’s assigned teacher.

All kindergarten students will attend together on Thursday, marking the official start of their Southwest journey.

CHORUS
Students in Grades 4-5 can register for chorus now and our first meeting will be this Thursday (August 27th ) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eCN_9aOIsAOpgvriKwes9roulQPrbT3b/view 3rd graders interested in chorus will be added later in the year.

GIRLS ON THE RUN
Girls On the Run Fall 2026 Registration is August 24-September 11 https://www.gotrtriangle.org/3rd-5th-grade-program-details

Season will run from September 14- December 5
Practices 2:30-4:15 Monday & Thursday
